Oktoberfest Media

Over at The Quagmire, Eric writes that he's picked up, among other things, a new Terry Pratchett book. As it turns out, I picked up Pratchett's sequel t' Goin' Postal afore today after I enjoyed a delici'us Sandrine's creme brulee at their booth in Harvard Square, which were bein' turned into a mini-fair t' celebrate Oktoberfest.

I forgot to mention that I finally got my DVD copy of the British sitcom Spaced. It is like geek candy. In a similarly geeky vein, I've been very much enjoying the third season of Venture Brothers.

Between Venture Brothers, the novel Soon I Will Be Invincible, and Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog, which is one of the best things I've seen this summer, I've been covering the root-for-the-villain angle quite well.

I sacrificed some of my hearing to see Brendon Small and Dethklok live. I've also managed to go to the drive-in. Yes, there are still drive-ins.

I thought you were dead...

Hello, Internets. It's been a while.

I've had quite a busy few months. I've installed a photo gallery that embeds in Drupal (but I think the standalone version is nicer). More photos to come there, but likely at my typical posting pace, which can charitably be described as glacial.

For my next trick

Neil were bein' tryin' t' increase th' speed o' Drupal on one o' th' New England Region SCCA sites, an' he told me about th' early success he be had usin' eAccelerator fer cachin'. So I decided t' try it out.

I'm going to Drupalcon!

Posted on 19 February 2008 by jose

I'm lookin' forward t' th' first week in March, because I'm goin' t' Drupalcon with me shipmates. Shiver me timbers, Ya horn swogglin' scurvy cur! I've been usin' Drupal fer almost a year now, so I'm still a relative newbie, but I feel I've learned a lot, an' I've gotten t' really enjoy hackin' on modules an' themin' usin' templates. Aarrr! I'm very excited o'er what I might learn in a couple o' weeks.

No Country for Cold Men

Posted on 02 January 2008 by jose

It's likely cold when ye can legitimately confuse yer boat's gear indicator with th' temperature display immediately below it. And swab the deck! In this particular case, when I left th' office, th' temperature were bein' only a couple o' degrees higher than th' number o' gears in me boat. I shudder t' think what th' temperature will drop t' in a couple more hours. Or maybe I'm just cold.

Updated from Atlanta, using my Wii

Posted on 01 January 2008 by jose

I wanted to see how difficult it would be to update using my Wii, and while challenging, the auto-match makes it easier than I would have thought possible. Coolness.

ETA: space to my title. Also, Gmail is manageable on the Wii, but you really have to play with it to get it to work properly. Still, the Wii got the job done.

Flavor of the month

I think Silversun Pickups is me new flavor o' th' month (last month it were bein' Feist), I'll warrant ye. I'd been hearin' about them on vari'us blogs I read, an' after th' umpteenth Wil Wheaton name-drop, regardin' how Lazy Eye should be on th' Rock Ban' set list, I decided t' check them out, All Hands Hoay! Thanks t' YouTube, I heard th' song while watchin' th' video, an' thought, "eh. A bit Smashin' Pumpkins. Walk the plank! Not bad. Let's check out th' rest o' their stuff, see if 'tis better." And it were bein'. My favorite song: Little Lover's So Polite, followed closely by Waste It On, All th' Go Inbetweens, Booksmart Devil, an' Creation Lake.

Speakin' o' Wheaton, his latest book is pretty good, with a chest full of booty. Too short. But like they say, always leave them wantin' more.

Where have all my hackers gone?

Posted on 13 December 2007 by jose

Oh, Intarwebs! I di'nae mean t' abandon ye! Yaaarrrrr! I owe ye Puerto Rico pictures! And Thanksgivin' pictures! See, I've just been playin' with yer cousin o'er at rpg.hackwater.com, doin' some theme hackin'. In fact, this week has been me best programmin' week so far, solvin' problems an' applyin' fixes left an' right. After finishin' a medium project at work that had me doin' some cool Drupal hackin', I turned t' vari'us small issues in me queue that had been gettin' no play thanks t' me focus on th' larger project.
